ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights Features and Reception
Who It Suits

ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights

This exploration action RPG lets you equip attacks borrowed from purified Blighted. Boss fights ask you to watch their moves, stay at the right range, and account for recovery after attacking.

Its quiet story and Mili's music may draw you in, but the map shapes the exploration. Room colors flag unfinished collecting, while the map leaves out detailed layouts and offers no personal markers.

What makes it fun

  1. Change your spirits, change the fight

Equip skills from purified spirits, with quick melee attacks in one set and ranged attacks in another. Switching to suit your distance from a boss gives you another way to approach the fight.

  2. Find an opening for your spirits

Learn a boss’s attacks, dodge them, and call on a spirit when the move ends. The skill’s reach and speed shape which openings you can use.

  3. Learn who you just fought

Purifying a boss reveals memories of who they were. The fight stays with you as you carry that story into the next area.

A typical run

Lily wakes in a church and explores Land’s End with the power of the Umbral Knight.

You search rooms and use restpoints as bases. A blocked route becomes a place to remember when you gain another ability.

You dodge a stronger foe's attack, then place a Skill in the opening after its motion ends. Switching Skills helps you attack from the right range.

Purifying the Blighted adds attack Skills or traversal actions. New movement opens paths you could not reach before.

Residue enhances Spirits, and Relics can be changed to suit the next area or boss.

Core systems

Purification

Defeated Blighted are released from their curse and lend Lily their power. Purifying major foes also reveals fragments of their lives before the curse.

What to decide

The foe you pursue affects which attack or traversal tool you gain next. You can press ahead with that power or return to a route that was blocked.

Spirits

You equip attacks from purified Blighted and switch between them in combat. Melee, ranged, magic, and counter Skills differ in reach and recovery.

What to decide

A quick attack can handle routine fights, while a heavy strike fits a boss opening. Bringing a ranged answer leaves fewer slots for close combat.

Blighted residue

Residue found throughout Land’s End enhances Spirits. Certain upgrades change a combo or the projectiles of a ranged attack.

What to decide

You cannot casually upgrade every Spirit you acquire. Invest in an attack you use now, or hold residue for one you may gain later.

Relics

Relics provide effects that help in combat or exploration. Alongside Spirits, they can change how you attack and how readily you recover from a hit.

What to decide

Equip capacity is limited. If recovery or defense helps you survive a troublesome attack, less capacity remains for damage effects.

Exploration

Aerial dash, double jump, wall climb, and hook-swing arrive as exploration progresses. They also help you reach paths and collectibles left in earlier regions.

What to decide

A visible collectible can be attempted now or left until you gain more movement abilities. Getting it early may require a difficult jump using a Skill's recoil.

Blightborn Modes

Earning the Dawn Prayer achievement unlocks this feature. From a restpoint, you can adjust game parameters to change a challenge.

What to decide

After meeting the achievement condition, you can alter conditions affecting enemies or Lily. This unlock works differently from choosing a conventional difficulty setting at the start.

What sets it apart

Lily does not swing a weapon herself. The Blighted she summons to attack form her equipped moveset.

Power gained from major foes can provide attacks or traversal actions, changing where you can investigate next.

The map leaves out detailed room geometry. Room color tells you whether a collectible is still there.

Learning curve and difficulty

Against a boss, watch its move finish before placing a Skill in the opening. Attacking for too long can leave you exposed during recovery.

Each Skill has its own reach, use limit, and recovery. Changing the loadout changes when you can safely attack the same foe.

Later rooms can combine projectiles with airborne enemies. You have to decide whether to clear the room or dodge through it.

Purified Memories lets you rematch purified bosses. After purifying every boss, Maligned Memories opens consecutive fights. New Game+ and the achievement-unlocked Blightborn Modes offer further changes to the conditions.

Builds and playstyles

Melee and ranged swap

Keep a quick melee Skill in your usual set, with ranged or heavy attacks in the other. Reach scattered enemies from afar, then swap to a heavy hit when a boss leaves an opening.

Counter setup

Dodge while learning the enemy's attack cue, then time a counter Skill. Let the foe enter your chosen range instead of chasing it.

Ranged crowd control

Bring Skills that reach airborne or ranged enemies and thin them out before closing in. This suits players who want to avoid contact in crowded late areas.

What longtime players say

These reviewers enjoyed learning boss attacks, dodging them, and using the resulting openings. Repeated attempts made the eventual win rewarding.

Reviewers with longer playtime appreciated nearby restpoints. Losing cost little, and the short return to a boss let them test what they had learned.

Completion-focused reviewers used room colors to locate unfinished collecting. They still missed room detail and personal map markers when returning to old routes.

What players like

Purification keeps adding attacks to try. Reviewers liked choosing a quick melee Skill for regular use and putting ranged or heavy attacks in another set to suit their hands.

When hunting collectibles, room colors narrow down where to look. Reviewers found that helpful even though the map does not show detailed terrain.

Memories after Purification connect with found notes and clues in the scenery. Reviewers enjoyed piecing together the characters' and kingdom's past after a boss fight.

Reviewers liked the way Mili's music accompanies each region's scenery and gives the quiet ruins their mournful feel.

Boss fights reward learning an attack, waiting out its motion, and striking in the gap. Reviewers enjoyed turning a failed attempt into a better response on the next try.

After a loss, a nearby restpoint gets you back to the boss without a heavy penalty. Reviewers could focus on which move to dodge next.

Common complaints

A new traversal action sends you back to find paths you once had to leave. The map uses abstract room boxes and has no personal markers, so reviewers found those return trips hard to navigate.

In later areas and the Verboten Domain, crowded enemies can come with projectiles and damaging terrain. Reviewers found the trip tiring enough to run past fights.

Contact damage and attack recovery made a quick dodge difficult for these reviewers. Quiet sound effects also left hits feeling less forceful to them.

Residue spent on an early Spirit cannot be reassigned casually. Reviewers felt tied to that setup when they wanted to try another attack, and found acquired attacks uneven in usefulness.

Who it’s for

It suits players who watch a boss's attack, wait for an opening, and choose a Skill that reaches it. Relics give them another way to adjust for that encounter.

It also suits players who read memories and found notes, then use music and scenery to piece together the history of Land’s End.

Who might not enjoy it

If you mark blocked routes on a map and revisit them by checking those notes, the room-box map and lack of personal markers may make returning frustrating.

If you want to cancel attacks freely into dodges or explore late areas with few enemies in the way, attack recovery and crowded rooms may grate.
