Cult of the Lamb Features and Reception
Who Is It For?

Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb combines action with cult management. You look after Followers at home, then return from Crusades with supplies and new recruits.

The combat matters, but so does the routine before leaving: feeding the cult, keeping it clean, and knowing that life there continues while you are away.

What makes it fun

  1. Crusade loot changes your cult

Bring food and materials back from Crusades, then put them toward buildings and your followers' daily needs. You can see the results of a run in the cult you return to.

  2. Decide how to treat your followers

You can feed and house a follower, then choose to sacrifice them in a ritual for your cult. How you treat these cute creatures shapes the kind of leader you become.

A typical run

At the cult, you provide food, maintain sanitation and Faith, and assign jobs to Followers.

Sermons improve combat abilities. Devotion from Followers unlocks buildings, while Rituals give you ways to handle problems at home.

A Crusade starts you with a Weapon and a Curse. At each branch, you can head toward the resources or Followers your cult needs.

Tarot Cards and Relics give you options in combat. You still have to judge distance, dodge timing, and when to activate an ability.

On returning, you spend the spoils on the cult and deal with anything that went wrong while you were away. Then you prepare for the next Crusade.

Core systems

Crusades

These expeditions take you through combat rooms and branching routes. You can seek resources or food, head for a Follower, or visit a shop.

What to decide

Do you take something that helps this run or supplies for the cult? As you press on, you also have to decide when it is time to head home.

Tarot Cards

A card's effect lasts for the current Crusade. Progression also unlocks Corrupted cards, which offer power with a drawback attached.

What to decide

Choose whether to build on your Weapon and Curse or cover a weakness in the current setup. Before taking a Corrupted card, consider whether you can handle its drawback with what you have.

Relics

Relics are items with activated abilities for use on Crusades. Certain Relics recharge after use; others are single use.

What to decide

Use one in an ordinary room to avoid damage, or save it for a dangerous fight. Corrupted Relics become available after unlocking them and carry a drawback.

Doctrines

Doctrines set the cult's rules. Your choices change how you deal with problems in Follower life and which Rituals you can perform.

What to decide

Choose which pressure to ease first: Faith, labour, death, or food. Early choices shape the way you run the cult, though postgame progression offers a way to obtain Doctrines you passed over.

Rituals

Rituals spend resources to affect the cult. They can change Faith, food, labour, or a Follower's fate. A used Ritual must cool down before you can perform it again.

What to decide

You can use a Ritual to address a current problem or prepare before a Crusade. Check what it costs and how long that Ritual will take to become available again.

Followers

Followers have jobs, Traits, and Loyalty. Their hunger, illness, and Faith change over time, and they develop individual quests and relationships.

What to decide

You decide whom to develop, which jobs and gifts to give, and how to handle Dissenters. Caring for a favourite Follower can pull against the cult's needs.

What sets it apart

Supplies from Crusades go into building and maintaining the cult. As the cult grows, Sermons turn that progress into combat upgrades for future Crusades.

Unless you enable the setting that pauses it, time at the cult continues during a Crusade. Leave without settling food, sanitation, and Faith, and you may return to several problems at once.

The contrast between cute creatures and dark Rituals reaches the way you treat Followers. You can keep caring for them or use them as resources for the cult.

Learning curve and difficulty

In combat, watch enemy distance and dodge timing. Decide when to commit to a Heavy Attack, spend Fervour on a Curse, or hold a Relic for later.

Cult management starts before departure. Prepare food and clean the grounds so illness or falling Faith does not become a problem while you are gone.

After the story, Purgatory offers Boss Rush and Dungeon Gauntlet challenges. You can try a different approach with each Fleece.

You can change the difficulty, use Force Weapon Mode to fix the weapon type, or enable Stop Time on Crusade. These options let you focus on combat practice or ease the pressure of leaving the cult unattended.

Builds and playstyles

Heavy Attack and Curse Control

Use Heavy Attacks to deal with enemy spacing, then bring out Curses and Relics in dangerous rooms. Watch your remaining Fervour and time the use of a ready Relic.

Corrupted Trade-Off

Once unlocked, take the effects of Corrupted Tarot Cards and Relics. Their drawbacks make dodging and recovery part of how you keep the run going.

Disciple-Supported Crusade

Develop a Follower's Loyalty and make them a Disciple. Disciple structures support the next Crusade, so choosing whom to raise at home becomes part of expedition preparation.

What longtime players say

Even as the cult grows, individual Followers remain memorable through their names and what happened to them. Caring for a sick Follower or losing one can make players want to return and keep looking after the cult.

For players returning after updates or added content, there is more story and hidden quests to follow. Running the cult again gives them a place from which to pursue what has been added.

After the story, collecting, decorating, and further exploration give players reasons to keep the cult going. Tending the place where their Followers live is part of that routine.

What players like

Players like choosing how to lead: giving Followers care and gifts, or making them work harshly and using them in Rituals. Those choices let them play out their own version of a cult leader.

The cute animals perform dark Rituals and head into violent Crusades. Players enjoy seeing that contrast carry through daily cult life and combat.

Players enjoy fighting through a Crusade, returning to care for Followers and build, then heading out again. They can spend a session on combat or turn their attention to the cult.

Naming and caring for Followers makes them memorable. Players describe mourning their deaths or reviving them to bring them back into the cult.

Supplies brought home from a Crusade can become buildings and upgrades. Players like seeing the results of an expedition take shape in their cult.

Players who find combat demanding can adjust difficulty or assistance settings. Others value being able to keep a challenge while setting a level of pressure that suits them.

Players also enjoy fighting with the Weapon and Curse received on a Crusade, then adding Tarot Cards found along the route.

Common complaints

Cooking, cleaning, and caring for sick Followers can pile up. Players also describe returning from a Crusade to find problems waiting at the cult.

During late play or while finishing collections, repeated room layouts and similar fights become more noticeable to these players.

Players who want intricate builds from Weapons and Tarot Cards on each run find limited room for them. The cult management systems can also feel simple to those seeking more to work out.

Reviewers report unclear explanations for buildings or mechanics and bugs encountered during play. These describe their experiences at the time of posting.

Who it’s for

It suits players who want to bring supplies home from short Crusades, build up the cult, and care for Followers. Preparing food and sanitation before leaving is part of that rhythm.

It also fits players who become attached to named Followers. Jobs, Doctrines, and Rituals let them decide how their cult treats its members.

Who might not enjoy it

If you want to assemble an intricate Weapon and Tarot Card build on every expedition, the combat systems may feel slight.

If repeated food and sanitation chores do not appeal to you, managing the cult after it grows may become a burden.
