Roots of Pacha Features and Reception
Who It Suits

Roots of Pacha

This farming life sim has you raise wild crops and animals while developing tools and facilities with your clan.

You might focus on the clan's Ideas, breeding across generations, or exploring Caves without combat. The choice depends on where you want to spend your time.

What makes it fun

  1. Help the clan invent

Contribute goods and gather materials for the clan’s Ideas. New facilities change the village, making the results of your daily work visible in the clan’s life.

  2. Raise animals from the wild

Befriend wild animals with your flute and bring them home. When breeding them, you can choose parents for mount speed or the goods they produce, then decide which animals to raise and ride.

  3. Explore caves without combat

Mine ore, read cave paintings for clues to the offerings, and take on the Totem trials. There is no combat; solving puzzles opens the way forward.

A typical run

Find wild seeds and materials, then choose a day's work from farming, fishing, animal care, and other tasks.

Giving produce and processed goods to the clan earns Contribution and advances its Prosperity.

Meet the conditions for a clan member to propose an Idea. Gather the materials and reach the required Prosperity to turn it into a tool, processor, or building.

For a cave trip, pack food and tools. Mine ore as you work through Totem trials and dark rooms.

Ideas and Prophecies remain available across seasons. You can decide when to focus on crops, relationships, breeding, or exploration.

Core systems

Ideas

Clan members propose tools, processors, and village facilities. Once an Idea appears, completing it calls for materials and the required Prosperity.

What to decide

Start collecting materials or raising animals for a later Idea, or make the processor or travel option you need now. Chasing immediate Contribution alone can delay the next Idea's requirements.

Contribution

Giving goods to the clan earns Contribution, the game's currency. The clan's accumulated Contribution appears as Prosperity, which affects village changes and Idea requirements.

What to decide

Keep a harvest for food and processing, or donate it to move Prosperity forward. What you plan to make next helps determine how much to hold back.

Plant Knowledge

Harvesting builds Plant Knowledge and reveals a crop's season and growth time. Wild plants gradually become domesticated crops, while further knowledge improves your chances of higher-quality harvests.

What to decide

Try a wide range of found seeds, or give field space to crops you need for cooking and processing. Their eventual use changes what is worth planting now.

Ranching

Match a wild animal's melody with the flute to gain its trust and invite it to the village. Befriended animals can be ridden, kept animals provide products, and breeding can improve offspring traits tied to speed and production.

What to decide

Collect coat variants, or keep parents selected for mount speed or useful products. Since friendship comes before breeding, it helps to invite a species early if you expect to need it later.

Caves

Mine ore and use murals as clues while passing Totem trials and dark rooms. There is no combat, and Totem powers add ways to move through the Caves.

What to decide

Push on with food and tools, or return to prepare an offering or processed item. If a route is unclear, check the mural and the room layout.

What sets it apart

Tools and facilities begin as clan members' Ideas. Completing them changes daily life in the village.

Wild plants become domesticated crops through cultivation. Animals must first trust you before their traits can be passed to later generations.

The Caves trade enemy encounters for mining and Totem trials.

Learning curve and difficulty

Watching the requirements for several Ideas lets everyday farming and gathering prepare materials for the next facility.

Separate crops grown for Plant Knowledge from those feeding processors or Contribution. That way, you can prepare materials while other crops grow.

Breeding depends on parent traits and friendship. Choosing a species early can spare you a long chain of waits when you reach the later game.

Each Totem grants a different cave power. Before heading into the next room, check the mural clues and prepare any offering or tool upgrade you need.

Builds and playstyles

Processing and Contribution farm

Feed materials into dryers, smokers, and fermenting equipment. Keep enough food, then give processed goods to the clan. Match your field space and gathering to the time each processor takes.

Early breeding ranch

Invite the species you want early, build friendship, and keep likely parents. Select breeding stock for mount speed separately from animals raised for products.

Co-op division of labor

Divide farming, fishing, ranching, and mining between players, then share materials to advance clan Prosperity. Arrange to gather the group when a story scene or trial requires everyone.

What longtime players say

Developing animal traits and collecting coat variants can continue after other goals are done. The breeding waits draw criticism, though, as does the lack of a clear use for fully developed traits at that stage.

Explicit goals thin out once the Caves or story reach a stopping point. Whether collection and breeding can become goals of your own shapes the appeal of continuing.

There is still pleasure in collecting and spending time in the village after a story break. Reviewers also describe looking for a new goal at that point.

What players like

Donate goods, build Contribution, and see a clan member's Idea become a facility. Reviewers liked how that sequence makes the clan feel involved in the village's growth.

Reviewers enjoyed earning wild animals' trust with the flute, then riding them, breeding them, or collecting coat variants.

Mining and working through Totem puzzles without combat appealed to reviewers who did not want fights in the Caves.

Without a deadline pushing them along, reviewers could develop the village and explore at their own pace. That suited players who did not want to plan every day tightly.

Co-op lets players share village progress. Reviewers also enjoyed splitting jobs such as farming and fishing.

Harvests build Plant Knowledge, and wild plants become domesticated crops. Reviewers found that change a clear reason to keep farming.

Common complaints

Slow travel early on can combine with loading processors, mining, and animal care to make the days feel busy. Reviewers found themselves doing more manual work than the relaxed presentation suggested.

Footing can be hard to see in dark cave rooms, and long routes can be confusing. Reviewers describe turning to guides when they lost their way.

The flute activity can wear on players after repeated attempts to befriend animals. Those pursuing breeding also face the wait for friendship and later generations.

Once the story is over and collection or breeding becomes a self-set goal, developed crops, animal traits, and income can feel short of uses. Enjoyment at that point depends on wanting to set your own target.

Who it’s for

It suits players who want to gather materials for clan members' Ideas and watch the completed facilities change village life.

It also fits those who enjoy building Plant Knowledge through harvests and raising animal friendship before breeding across seasons.

The Caves suit players who would rather prepare food and offerings for mining and Totem trials than fight enemies.

Who might not enjoy it

If you want fast travel and automated processing or animal care from the start, the movement, loading of equipment, and daily chores may wear on you.

If you want the game to keep assigning goals after the story, the stage where collection and breeding become self-directed may be less appealing.
