Both games involve tidying, but A Little to the Left asks you to find rules in arrangements, while Unpacking has you make room for belongings and piece together their owner’s life through them.

Would you rather seek another solution or read a story through belongings and their places? The help available when you get stuck may also shape your choice.

What each game is

A Little to the Left

In A Little to the Left, you drag household objects into arrangements and stacks, looking for the rule behind each puzzle.

Puzzles with alternate solutions let you look for another way to organize the objects after finding an answer.

Hints let you choose how much of the answer to reveal. Let It Be lets you skip a puzzle and move on.

The Daily Tidy Delivery offers daily variations on existing puzzles, with badges to earn by finding solutions.

The puzzle Archive makes formerly time-limited seasonal puzzles available outside their original season.

Unpacking

Unpacking has you fit boxed belongings into new homes, moving from a bedroom to spaces across a whole house.

Stacking plates and arranging shelves combines fitting objects into a space with decorating that space.

The belongings that come along to each home, and those left behind, tell the story of an unseen owner.

There are no timers or scores, leaving you free to spend time on objects and domestic details rather than race to finish.

In the usual puzzles, you place belongings according to the game’s placement rules.

Allow items anywhere lifts the placement restrictions, so you can keep unpacking without working out where each object belongs.

For experienced players

A Little to the Left

Reviews value the thought involved in solving puzzles as well as the satisfaction of a tidy result.

Reviews praise daily puzzles as a reason to return and also describe the burden of continuing for achievements.

Unpacking

To follow changes in the owner’s life, pay attention to what stays through a move as well as what newly appears.

Reviews also find meaning in relationships through the places where belongings do, or do not, fit.

When deciding whether to remove placement restrictions, consider whether you want to retain the process of working out where an object belongs as part of reading the story.
